Community Night is an annual event hosted by the College of Social Sciences & Humanities, and led by the Senior Bachelor's of Social Work class (2026). Every year, the students research social problems and advocate for a cause they believe needs to be addressed. This year, the chosen social problem is inspired by the book, The Anxious Generation, by Jonathan Haidt. As many of our students have worked with children in the field, they've seen the effects of social media and early internet exposure on children. These BSW students have lived it, and now, they see how it's evolved and begun to affect the next generation. The purpose of community night is to educate and equip parents and helping professionals with the tools they require to utilize these digital platforms in a healthy and safe way. The event will include take-home bags that provide alternatives to parents and helping professionals. A nonprofit organization will be chosen, and the net proceeds will be donated to that organization.
Community Night brings together students, faculty, community leaders, and local partners for an evening dedicated to strengthening our community.
This year, the social work community is highlighting the dangers and impacts of early internet exposure for children. The conversation around it is dull and lacking education and proactivity. Community Night 2026 is here to open the conversation for families and future parents.
Community Night is intentionally free and open to the public to encourage broad community participation and accessibility. Removing financial barriers to attendance, it allows our target audience to attend and negates exclusivity and shame.
Through the generosity of sponsors like you, Community Night creates a space where students, nonprofit organizations, and community members can connect, collaborate, and build meaningful relationships that extend far beyond the event itself. While supporting students, sponsors have the opportunity to be associated with an incredibly impactful and moving night by name.
YOU make this possible.
Your partnership helps ensure that future professionals are equipped with the knowledge, resources, and experiences necessary to advocate for stronger families and healthier communities.
I am a BSW student with hopes of becoming an endowment fund specialist. I love all things communities, whether it's bringing them together, bringing an important topic to a community, or bringing support to a community. That's why being the chair of the fundraising committee for our upcoming event 'community night' has been such an amazing experience for me. I've been blessed with amazing fundraising mentors, and I'm so excited to build out my network as I step into this industry post-college.
