Seedy Saturday,

Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

  • About the event

Green Venture, a Hamilton-based not-for-profit, is hosting our 14th annual Seedy Saturday, Hamilton's biggest gardening event.

Seedy Saturday is designed to address climate action through sustainable gardening practices, participants will learn about seed harvesting, community greening, environmental protection, pollinator habitats, ecological gardening, and much more from various organizations across Hamilton. One of our main goals is to increase gardening accessibility by connecting individuals to local resources with similar goals and audiences.

During Seedy Saturday community members can explore over 30 eco-conscious vendors and community organizations such as Nature is Health, Seeds of Diversity, Ontario Invasive Species Council, Children's Garden Project,  Environment Hamilton, and many more. Public speakers and educational demonstrations are key features of the event. Last year, we hosted a variety of workshops including Gardening with Native Plants, Managing Rain Where it Falls, Urban Permaculture, and Garden Dreaming and Starting Seeds, participants also had the opportunity to participate in a seed exchange. Additionally, we offer a variety of children's and family events, such as environmentally friendly crafts, pollinator kit creation, and storytimes.  One of our main goals is to increase gardening accessibility by connecting individuals to local resources with similar goals and audiences.

The local seed swap is the heart of this event, and it serves to preserve our genetic diversity, support more equitable local food growing, and encourage a greater connection with nature and a sharing community.  Last year, almost 1000 Hamilton residents attended the event and engaged with dozens of vendors and workshops in the plant, horticulture, and local food space.
